Berwind Lake, West Virginia Fishing

Location and Information: Covering only 20 acres, Berwind Lake can be found in McDowell County, West Virginia, just south of the town of War. It is part of the Berwind Lake Wildlife Management Area. It holds the distinction of being the southernmost public fishery in the entire state. The lake does allow boating, but due to its small size, only electric motors can be used. Berwind has an average depth of 12 feet with a maximum depth of 35 feet.

According to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, Berwind Lake contains numerous species of popular fish. Despite being a small fishery, the lake does offer decent fishing throughout the year. So, what type of fish are in Berwind? Trout are stocked here monthly between February and May. The lake also is home to largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. Adult channel catfish are stocked in June every year.
