Rick Vogelbacher

Rick Vogelbacher

Writer

Rick began bass fishing on small, vegetation-filled lakes in southern Michigan, where he developed a passion for solving the unique puzzle each day on the water presents. Over the years, he has fished more than 200 lakes, rivers, impoundments, and reservoirs across the Midwest.
He spent three years running a regional bass tournament trail in Indiana and Michigan and launched one of the earliest independent fishing websites, Rick’s Ultimate Bass Fishing (RUBF), in 1998. That site evolved into Tri-State Fishing, now a key resource for anglers in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio, featuring one of the largest archived databases of fishing reports for individual lakes.
From 2004 to 2017, Rick competed in both small circuits and large open bass tournaments. Today, he co-hosts R & J Bass Fishing alongside longtime friend Jim Napolski. Originally gaining traction on YouTube, the pair made a bold move to Rumble in 2020, where they continue to grow a dedicated following. Known for openly sharing tactics, tips, and data, Rick and Jim are committed to helping fellow anglers find joy on the water—at a time when most prefer to keep their secrets close.
Rick credits his love for fishing to the many mentors, pros, and industry leaders who’ve guided him along the way. His mission now is to pass that knowledge forward.
