Lac Vieux Desert, Michigan Fishing

Location and Information: Lac Vieux Desert is one of the most popular fishing lakes in Michigan. It is located in two different counties and states. It lies in Gogebic County Michigan and Vilas County Wisconsin. The Lake is just over 4,000 acres and has a max depth approximately 40 feet and it is around 4 miles in length. There are multiple different species of fish in this lake. It can be fished year round whether it is open waters or frozen solid enough to ice fish. Muskie and Walleye fishing are very good on this lake.

Species List: According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Torch Lake contains numerous species of popular fish. So, what type of fish are in this lake? You can find Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Bluegill, Brook Trout, Black Crappie, Sunfish, Muskie, Northern Pike, Walleye and Yellow Perch.

Species Regulations and Limits

Largemouth Bass: Must be at least 14”- Limit 5

Smallmouth Bass: Must be at least 14”- Limit 5

Northern Pike: 24” minimum- 2 per angler

Muskellunge:  1 per angler April 1st to March 31st

Walleye: 15” minimum- 5 per angler

Yellow Perch: State Limits Apply

Trout: State Limits Apply

Black Crappie: State Limits Apply
