That said, a recent story coming out of Hudson, Ohio is certainly a head turner!
In a popular video that has circulated around the city of Hudson in Northeast Ohio and beyond this week, the city’s mayor offers quite the response when discussing potential issues involving ice fishing.
One would imagine those issues would include safety, littering, or something of that ilk, right? With temperatures at dangerous levels and the thickness of the region’s ice in question, it makes sense that these could be valid concerns.
The takeaway, however, is that there is a much different issue that could arise from allowing ice fishing in the Ohio city.
“Additionally, if you open this up to ice fishing, while on the surface it sounds good, then what happens next year? Does someone come back and say, ‘I want an ice shanty on Hudson Springs Park for X-amount of time?'” said Mayor Craig Shubert.
He continues, “…and if you then allow ice fishing with shanties, then that leads to another problem: prostitution. And now you’ve got the police chief and police department involved. Just data points to consider.”
While there are certainly some members of the fishing community who might relish this newfound venture/opportunity, it’s hard to imagine prostitution becoming endemic to the industry.
