Kentucky Trout Stocking Schedule (2021)

Known to have some truly exceptional fishing lakes, Kentucky is also home to numerous smaller public waters the provide quality trout fishing at various times of the year. When looking at amazing fisheries like Lake Barkley, Lake Kentucky, and Lake Cumberland, it’s easy to see why.

Like nearby Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, trout fishing is also a popular pastime for anglers in The Bluegrass State.

As with many states, however, it is the smaller lakes and streams that shine when it comes to trout fishing, however.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has announced the following trout stocking dates and locations for early 2021:

  • Beulah Lake, Jackson County (1,000)
  • Cranks Creek Lake, Harlan County (2,000)
  • Peabody WMA-Access Lake, Muhlenberg County (1,500)
  • Peabody WMA-Rob’s Pond, Muhlenberg County (1,000)
  • Peabody WMA-Flycatcher Lake, Muhlenberg County (1,000)

Weather and road conditions may create changes to the Kentucky trout stocking schedule.

What Lakes and Creeks are scheduled for Trout Stocking in Kentucky?

Between October and December 2020, numerous lakes and creeks in Kentucky will be stocked with trout.

For individual anglers, a daily creel limit of 8 rainbow trout is in place, with a possession limit of 16. There is no minimum size requirement for trout that are kept, however.

As part of the Fishing in Neighborhoods (FIN) initiative, numerous lakes and ponds are set for trout stocking in Kentucky during the last quarter of 2020.

In 2020 and early 2021, The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources plans on stocking over a dozen creeks between October and March.
