Virtual Public Meeting Notice
Beech Fork Lake and East Lynn Lake Regional Master Plan
US Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District
You are invited to participate in a public meeting regarding preparation of a Regional Master Plan and Integrated Environmental Assessment for Beech Fork and East Lynn Lakes as required by the National Environmental Policy Act. A master plan is the strategic land use management document that guides management and development of all recreational, natural, and cultural resources at the projects for the next 15 to 25 years.
A virtual public meeting will be held to provide information on the planning process and to let you know how you can provide input. The presentation may be heard via telephone on the phone number listed below. Although not required to hear the call, a webinar will be held during the same time so that callers can see the presentation. To access the webinar, use the URL below. Beech Fork Lake Information
- 9.9 hp limit
- 20 min from Huntington and 1 hr from Charleston
- the dam is 86 feet high and 1,100 feet long
- 720 acres of water surface in summer
- 12,608 acres owned by the Corps of Engineers
- 3,144 acres is leased to WVDNR for Beech Fork State Park
- 8,247 acres is leased to WVDNR for Beech Fork Wildlife Management Area
East Lynn Lake Information
- no hp limit
- located in Wayne County
- 50 min from Huntington and 1.5 hrs from Charleston
- the dam is 113 feet high and 652 feet long
- 1,005 acres of water surface in summer
- 24,821 acres of land owned by Corps of Engineers
- 22,928 acres is leased to WVDNR for East Lynn Wildlife Management Area
Benefits of Both Lakes Include:
- provide flood protection, recreation, and preservation of fish and wildlife habitat
- provide flood protection to the areas immediately downstream, but also contribute to flood control on the Ohio River
- are located in the Twelvepole Creek watershed which is tributary to the Ohio River
- both lakes have marinas, fishing, campgrounds, hiking/biking trails, swimming beaches, and hunting
